Royal Mail Delivery Office, Worthing - Built-Up Roofing

The Royal Mail Delivery Office in Worthing is a 1930s, neo-Georgian building occupying a corner plot in the town. At the rear of the building, the many levels of existing mastic asphalt roofing had reached the end of its lifespan, and over the years water ingress had become commonplace in a number of locations across the site.

IMA contractor Richard Soan Roofing Services faced a number of challenges while refurbishing the roof. Work had to be done while the building remained open for business, and access to the many different roof areas proved difficult.

In addition, roofing had to be carried out alongside other refurbishments undertaken by the main contractor making health and safety an even greater priority.

Richard Soan Roofing Services overlaid the existing waterproofing, enabling the Delivery Office to remain fully operational throughout the works.

Existing solar reflective chippings, paint surfaces and debris were cleared from the roofs, and surfaces primed and then overlaid with Icopal’s Profiles Vapour-Vent XL vapour control layer, Thermazone torch-on insulation, and finished with Profiles Vent-XL underlay and Profiles XL capsheet.

The level of workmanship and attention to detail were very high, and the four month long project was completed on time.
