ICOPAL REINFORCES ITS AWARDS CABINET

Leading building membranes specialist Icopal waltzed off with a host of trophies from this year’s RBM (Reinforced Bitumen Membrane) national awards held by the Flat Roofing Al-liance.

The company’s products featured in four out of a possible eight awards including the ulti-mate accolade of “Best in Show” along with the coveted Innovation award which was won by Icopal’s Formflash product – a lead-free alternative to flashings which is half the weight of code 4 lead.

The project that won the Best in Show award – Capital Roofing’s work on a former chapel that is now a dance hall at Blackheath High School in London - also won the Refurbish-ment category.

Capital Roofing replaced the copper that was being stolen from the hyperbolic paraboloid roof with Icopal’s Thermaweld Metal Face copper membrane. Their work had also won the category for built-up systems at the annual awards held by the IMA (Intelligent Membrane Association).

Icopal products also featured on Castle Veterinary Centre in Farnham, Hampshire, that won the FRA’s Special Achievement – Small Works (below 250m²) award for Farnborough Roofing. The contractor had to incorporate four different extensions added to the original building at different times under a new single insulated membrane roof using Icopal’s Pro-files system.

Organisers said of innovative Formflash: “This much-needed alternative to lead flashing will reduce the industry’s reliance on lead and as such is the leading product of its type on the market.”

This year’s ninth annual awards, that aim to recognise quality and excellence within the industry, were held at the London Marriott Hotel in London on March 5th and attracted hundreds of entries.
