Alongside the product categories. Icopal's IMA Award also recognizes excellent workmanship by awarding one IMA member employee with the coveted Craftsman of the Year Award. A good craftsman is not always just the person fixing products to the roof. Providing exceptional project management can be just as challenging and require excellent staff management skills. On top of this, ensuring the client is happy and dealing with any complaints or problems with timely responses makes the project manager an essential part of any project team. This years award reflects the importance of these skills.
Craftsman of the Year 017 was awarded to ltech Roofworks' Hayley Reynolds, for her exceptional management of the refurbishment work on Heathrow Terminal 3’s Pier 7. Due to problems of water ingress within many of the departure gate rooms, the project required the renewal and replacement of the bituminous waterproofing system.
Hayley was required on site every day to oversee the works, which included completely removing and replacing the existing roof mounted equipment, to then be lifted over 2.5m onto a new steelwork mezzanine structure. Once removed, access to the existing flat roof areas permitted the removal and replacement of the existing system with a range of Icopal's waterproofing products, including the installation of Micoral SK Vapour Control Layer, tapered PIR insulation. Pyrobar Underlay (as the carrier layer) and the Elastoflex Solvent Free liquid applied waterproofing membrane.
Hayley's years of experience ensured the project was finished to an exceptional standard within the deadline. Not only did she win the Craftsman of the Year Award 2017 to reflect this, the hard work she and her team put into the Heathrow project also earned them first place in the Liquid Waterproofing category.
