Company: McCormick Flat Roofing Ltd, Hornchurch, Essex
Project: 02 Building 3
Materials Used: 12Mm Recovery Board, Fully-Bonded Sureweld TPO Fleeceback, Anti-Skid Walkway Membrane
Leading mobile phone provider O2 needed a complete overhaul of the roof of one of its major buildings, Building 3 – the main hub for O2 in Western Europe, and currently home to more than 4,000 staff. Not only did the roof leak badly, but it was also completely covered in debris and disused materials, including waste plant and insulation.
On gaining the contract, McCormick proposed mechanically fastening recovery board to the main, metal-sheeted deck, and then completing the job using SureWeld TPO. A first step was to ensure the entire roof (of 3,500m2) was leak free by patching up the existing defective single-ply membrane as the roof was cleared. This allowed the building’s occupants to continue working while the repairs were carried out, which also included the installation of various plant, put in place and waterproofed during the re-roofing process.
The job took a total of 14 months, including two winters, but was completed on time, and to budget.
